Alpha Type - Typeface Design

In this project in the lecture series on the basics of type design and typesetting, we had to choose a favorite object of ours and build individual letters and finally a whole alphabet from interesting looking shapes of this very object.

At the end we also had to design a poster to present our alphabet.

Here's a look at the object I chose, as well as the shapes I picked for building the individual letters...
For this project, I chose my electric guitar as my favorite object.

I've always been someone who likes to listen to a lot of music. My dad in particular, with his seemingly endless vinyl record collection, shaped my taste in music, which mainly consists of rock and funk.

One instrument that really stands out for me in these two genres is the guitar (or in this case the electric guitar), which sounds and playing techniques have always fascinated me.

Therefore, I started playing guitar myself a couple of years ago and now it's my favorite activity besides drawing to relax or distract myself.

Also, there's hands down nothing better than finally being able to play a song that you've heard up and down after days or weeks of practicing ^^

"Favorite object" might be a bit of an exaggeration, but I just love the variety of different shapes on the guitar and I really wanted to build a whole alphabet out of it, which you can actually see right here...
For the final poster I went for a look that was very much inspired by the style of old punk rock underground art for magazines or posters
from the 70s and 80s...
Of course, no costs and no efforts were spared to get this grungy and inconsistent look of this style and I ended up making an
actual poster out of snippets and scribbles.

Here's the progress of this one...

Enjoy!
